Shreya Gulamali was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in the Houston area. She attended University of Texas McCombs School of Business and graduated in 2003. She attended the University of Houston Law Center and graduated in the top quarter of her class in 2006. During her time at University of Houston Law Center, she served as President of Phi Alpha Delta and earned the Lex Award in Civil Procedure. Shreya Gulamali has been licensed to practice law in the State of Texas since 2006.

Shreya Gulamali worked at the Harris County District Attorney's Office as a prosecutor for nearly four and a half years and worked her way up through Justice of the Peace courts, misdemeanor courts, and felony courts. Shreya Gulamali served as a misdemeanor prosecutor, felony prosecutor, and a chief prosecutor in the misdemeanor courts. She has tried numerous cases to juries in Harris County, Texas including Theft, Burglary of Habitation, Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession with Intent to Deliver, Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence, Murder, and Sexual Assault.
